I Got Ballooned all started in 2009 at the offices of Invisible Children. Someone had a birthday, which merited birthday balloons, and we all celebrated with cake and alcohol. The next day was just like any other, except it wasn’t. All day, the art department felt something lingering over them. Around 3PM, someone looked up to find a balloon.

Oh, the proverbial balloon.

The following months were slow. Every now and then someone would get bored, see the balloon, and clip it to a co-worker’s sleeve or jacket and return to their work. Eventually, an encounter was documented, allowing everyone to enjoy the tomfoolery. People began to talk about the videos around the office. Others feared they would be next. Some plotted. It grew to be an office phenomenon, breaking past the status of “shenanigan” and “unecessary”. Ballooning brought everyone together. It was a game we could all play, together, without wasting any real work-time.

We have started a blog to share our fun with the world, as well as encourage others to play along. Nest time your office has a birthday, hold onto the balloons. You never know who might be next to mutter in frustration, “I got ballooned.”
